Meet your hosts
We’re Rafa and Ninet. We run La Tienda Nueva together, and we’re here every day. This is Rafa’s family house. The ground floor used to be a small village shop — first run by his grandmother and her sister, later by his mother and aunt. In Cómpeta, everyone still knows it as La Tienda Nueva. Even today, people in the village call Rafa “the one from La Tienda Nueva”. Rafa is a certified mountain guide (AEGM / UIMLA), leading walks through the Axarquía since 2018. Ninet runs Hierbabuena, a small café just around the corner — most of our guests end up there for breakfast. We opened the guesthouse to share Cómpeta the way we live it: on foot, at a slow pace, in a house that has always been full of people.
Our story
From village shop to guesthouse Long before it was a guesthouse, this house was at the heart of village life. The ground floor was a small shop where the families of Cómpeta came to buy thread, lamps, perfume and toys. Every Christmas, the second floor filled up with toys so that local children could choose what to ask the Three Wise Men for. When a couple was getting married, they came to pick out their crockery, their pans, their glasses — and friends and family came after to buy the gifts the couple had chosen. Today, the same walls welcome travellers instead of shoppers. But the spirit is the same: a house that has always been full of people.
